“Daily Broken Dream” was founded by Christoph (vocals) and Gerolf (Guitar) in 1998 under a different band name called “Race Riot”. We decided to play the style of music we like most, but required a lot of practising and hard work. When we found a drummer and a bassist we had a full-time band and started to write music and practice. We practiced for one year before we finally had our first local gig with our friends of the band Sperrfeuer. After some time another guitar player joined the band, which created an optimal line-up. However it didn’t last long because our drummer was forced to leave our region for work, so it became hard to find time for practice, and eventually he left the band. After a short time without a drummer we found Dennis, the drummer of Sperrfeuer, who had enthusiasm about playing in our band. He brought a more hard style into our music, so it sounded like hardcore for the first time. During the next weeks we practiced with the new drummer, and prepared for the last local show with Sperrfeuer. After that our bassist and our second guitar player left us – they not only did they leave the band, but they left the whole movement. It was quite hard to lose these two guys who had been friends for many years. Still today we cannot comprehend their decision. One of them changed his life radically (I don’t want to say more about this now…) – but they are mature enough to make their own conscious decisions. The next two years had been full of gigs we with three of us, and we still think of some gigs on the German island Rügen at “Club 18”. We have played there three times, with bands like Sperrfeuer, Legion Of Thor, D.S.T…. every time the atmosphere had been great. What a pity that this location was forced to close by the state after a short time. Because we couldn’t find a bassist and another second guitar player at this time, we encouraged Marcel, a friend of ours, to start playing bass guitar. It took quite a long time, because he had never played before. But – as everybody knows – practice makes perfect, so after some time he could do some gigs with us. At this time we decided to have our songs immortalized on CD. We were asked to record two songs for the well-known compilation called “White Pride World Wide”. We did the songs in the summer of 2003, but the CD wasn’t released until the end of 2004 for some reasons. In the meantime we had another second guitar player, but he didn’t really fit to us and left the band after a short time. At the end of 2003 we went into the recording studio again to record 11 songs for a full CD called “Terror Against Tyranny” which was released by Final Stand Records at the beginning of 2004. On an afterthought we would have done it much differently… as one can hear when listening to the result, we really didn’t have experience when we recorded our first album. After the release there were some more gigs, even abroad. At the end of 2004 we finally found a new second guitar player, so the line-up was Christoph (vocals), Gerolf (guitar), Dennis (drums), Marcel (bass), and Tobias (guitar). In May 2005 we recorded “Downfall Of Your Infected World” which was released by Until The End Records. Unfortunately, in 2006 we changed our line-up again. We didn’t have a lot of gigs in 2006, because we had a new drummer and a new bassist. Together we practised all our old songs and some new ones during many long evenings. “Downfall Of Your Infected World” was also released by 4uVinyl. This record contains music on one side and a special graffiti – made by hand, which took weeks – on the other side. These records are limited – the white one to 127 copies, black with “NSHC” to 88 copies and black with scull to 256 copies. Currently we are working on new songs for a next release. Additionally, we will play some gigs in the near future. During the last few years we often had discussions about our band name “Race Riot”. We chose this name 10 years ago, and now no one in the band really likes the name anymore. Whenever we talked about that, there have been several reasons for a new name. The only negative aspect was that Race Riot already was well-known. However, we decided to change the name, and we now call our band “Daily Broken Dream”. Of course, it’s not really typical to change ones name after a long time like this, but we are happy with our decision. The name “Race Riot” just forced us into the ranks of guys we mostly cannot identify with. Don’t get us wrong – we have not changed our political views, but most of you will understand what we mean. Although the name is different, Daily Broken Dream is not a new band – don’t worry, we’ll leave everything like it was with Race Riot.

…to be continued.
